Antique Tools

How many times have you come across a strange looking object and wondered its use?  If you are like most people, some of the really old tools baffle the mind as to what they could possibly have been used to repair or function at all.

Tools happen to be one of the most favorite items for men to collect.  They range in everything from a pair of old pliers to an antique shell loader.  Tools do not necessarily have to stand for mechanical repair instruments.  Tools come in wood, metal, hard plastic, bone, bronze, and several other materials.

One item that remains very popular to both men and women of all ages is the toolbox.  The carpenters box is often large and open faced, which makes a perfect magazine rack.  Other boxes like the one pictured is a rare old handmade toolbox.

Metal tools are always fun to collect for those who have an interest in hand forged tools.  They reflect the ingenuity of our forefathers ability to adapt their needs into steel and iron. 

Antique tools have been collected for centuries.  Seamstresses love thimbles, sewing boxes and countless other items such as needles, thread, hooks, darning balls and even antique button boxes.

Along with the antique tools are tool items that don't really have anything to do with fixing something, but act as an aide for a job needing to get done.  The wine press pictured is very old, but it was used for many years to press grapes.  These types of tools are in great demand with restaurant owners and wine connoisseurs, as decoration or memorabilia.

Dentists collect antique dental tools, and there are a lot of them.  Doctors find antique instruments that were once used in surgery.  Restoration specialists find tools required to repair an antique that only one tool fit.

Collecting an old tool in your field of interest is tons of fun.  As you snoop through all the old things, you will be amazed at just how many you recognize or know something about that a seller did not tell in their description of the items.  That is good for you, because they probably don't know what to charge either, and you are about to get a very good buy!

The flip of buying, is selling old tools.  The right ones are in demand and do not care if the economy is not good right now.  They have to have it and that is all there is to it.  Toolboxes are always a good item, and our next post will take you to an antique which has become one of the most popular items to crafters.  They buy them whenever they can and make a ton of money using them.
