Cast Iron Molds-The Easter Lamb
With Easter creeping up before we know it, there is a tradition I want to share that you may also find fun. Back when I was quite young my mother made us a special lamb cake at Easter time. Her mold was one my grandmother once owned and was made of cast iron. Mother used to bake the cake and cover it with white frosting and coconut. As we grew older and times changed, the Easter Lamb became a big old rice crispy bar lamb. We gave it gum drop eyes and placed it on a platter. We surrounded the lamb with green food colored coconut to make it look like grass.
I came across my lamb mold the other day while I was re-arranging my cupboards and wondered if you could get them anymore. I found inexpensive metal ones and also the old Cast Iron Lamb Molds. Below are a few that I was able to pull up from Ebay for your own consideration. It is a fun way to include the kids in a special event, or to decorate your table with a symbol that has long been a traditional item in many homes during the Easter season. You will also find sources from the other links on this site.
