Betty Crocker is probably the all time favorite of most newlyweds.  Easy to use and the book covers just about everything a new cook could possibly need or want to cook.

 

The vintage cookbooks held the best recipes.  You could whip up a batch of brownies or roast a turkey by following simple instructions that made the novice a gourmet cook and pastry chef.  The books from the late 60's and into the early 70's were my personal favorite.  Many of those recipes still remain at the forefront of my own cooking and baking.  Most are memorized by now, but that old Betty Crocker book still is a back up when the memory fails.
